So it has been 6 weeks since my micro braids and sew in was installed with the Janet Indi Remy wet and wavy hair and it is about that time to take down the style. The box braids in the front of my head held up well, however, my hair has grown about an inch so my hair looks old when I pull it back to style it. The box braids at the back of my head are a different story. They do not look well at all and I think it is because of all the rubbing on my shirt it has done. The braids look old and fuzzy.
The Sew In: It is clear to me that my hair has grown as I can lift my braids from my scalp. I would love to keep this hair in for another two weeks, but it will interfere with my up coming busy weekend schedules for the month of June. The weave however is a tangled mess and I have to blame myself. Initially that hair was so soft and silky that it would not stay in a ponytail. I continued to roll my hair nightly with flexi rods and one night I wrapped my hair. At night, I would use my tangle teezer or denman brush to detangle my hair before using the flexi rods.
My scalp continued to irritate me as it does when I wear a weave so I used an applicator bottle with Sweet Almond Oil and Peppermint Oil to get in between my tracks. I was careful not to have the oil land on the weave, but I noticed a few days later that the weave was oily as if the oils from my scalp were running down the length of the weave which caused the hair to tangle and knot- in my opinion.
I used Organix Coconut Milk Shampoo and Conditioner about a week ago to wash out the oil. I let the hair air dry about 90% and then I blow dried the hair on a low setting. It did not help the situation. My hair would look nice when I left the house for work, but my the end of the day I had a birds nest. I even tried to use steam rollers which came out nice but once again, the end of the night was a nightmare.
The hair shed so much that there was always clumps of hair in the bathroom after detangling. I would love to try this style again, but I will use a more reliable brand of hair.
So for my last week with this style, I will be bunning it up!
My next style may be a 3/4th wig until I relax on or around June 2nd.

I love Weaves!
I got my first weave in College- yes I said College. I was in my junior year of school (2005) and I was apart of a dance group. We had a show coming up and it was customary for the female dances to have long hair to add a sexy and dramatic effect while dancing. One of the dancers convinced me to purchase some weaving hair and she stated that she will install a few tracks for me. The hair was twelve inches, not that long, and I had about four tracks which blended well with my hair. My hair was past shoulder length at that time, so the twelve inches was not dramatic.
Since then I would have my stylist install a partial sew in weave (with some of my hair out) every year for the performances that we did. I would get the hair in ten inches though, because I wanted it to look natural, but as my hair was coming neck and neck with the weave, my stylist , and I even went as far as getting a a full wet and wavy weave with only a little bit of my hair out to cover the tracks (that was a disaster to be discussed in another post).
In 2009-2010, my sister wanted a weave and I put one in for her. Prior to that I had installed a track or two for some of the dancers for the show mentioned above. Her install came out so nice and everyone complemented her on her hair and thought it was hers. I kept doing her weaves for her and was dying to do one on myself, but I was not sure it would come out right. In 2010 I installed a few tracks on myself (sewn in) and I received complements on how well the weave blended with my hair. I wanted to try a partial sew in with the majority of my hair sewn in so bad, but I was still nervous.
In the summer of 2010, I had micro braids in the front and a sew in in the back done at the African Hair Braiding Shop. I went to florida on vacation and with the swimming I was doing, the edges of the tracks were coming up (the hair wasn't sewn down right), so I had to tack them back down. I began to turn to youtube videos and watched very closely when customers were getting sew in's at the salon. After paying someone over $200.00 in a shop for a weave, I said I have to do this on my own, and begin saving money. I know how to braid, been doing that for over 18 years now. It was just the fear of sewing, and making it look neat, that I had to get rid of.
I practiced with wig caps (glued), and decided to dive right in. At the end of August 2011, a few days before my birthday, I said I am going to install a partial sew in on myself. And I did just that and it came out well- except for the fact that the color of the hair (2) and my hair did not blend right, so I ended up dying the hair.
Since then I have done several 3/4th wigs which I now prefer as I can take them off at night (my scalp either doesn't like the thread, the wefts, or just being tied up). I recently made a full weave with a closure, and I cannot wait to rock it (after these micro's come out).
For me, weaves are a way of changing up your appearance and hair color without damaging or cutting your own hair. It also serves as a protective style for me when I want to give my hair a rest. I love weaves!

My Sister's Sew In
Today my sister asked me to install her sew in. She purchased two packs of hair- Outre Yaki 10 inches, color 1B and Sensational Too Yaki, 10 inches, color 33. I also had some left over Milky Way Hair, 10 inches, color 1b/33 which I used.
She wanted to leave a u-part of her hair out, so she asked me to relax her edges and the hair to be left out. After relaxing, deep conditioning, and blow drying her hair, I applied Cantu Shea Butter and Herbal Essences Long Term Relationship to her hair.
I then proceed to braid her hair. I braided the sides of her hair down (3 cornrows on each side) two braids around the u-part, and the rest of the hair was braided in a circular motion around the back of her head. I applied my Sweet Almond Oil and Peppermint Oil mix to her scalp.
My sister suffers from breakage at her nape (not sure why), so I had to add a net to that area of her hair, and I added another net to the area where the braid ended so that it would not unravel during the time she is wearing the weave.
I applied half of the 33 to the back of her hair, which covered about half of her head in the back, then I applied the 1B/33 to the top about two rows, and filled in the gap with the 1B. I flat ironed her leave out and curled her hair.

Caruso Steam Rollers on Weave
Hello!
So...When I came home from work yesterday I wanted to do something different with my 3/4th wig. Before I installed the hair, I read somewhere, and saved it as a note in my Blackberry, that the hair (Premium Too) should be kept straight, heat free, and free of products. Did I listen? NO. I totally forgot. After I washed the hair, not only did I use a blow dryer and flat ironed the hair, but I used Heat Protectant. Since I changed my phone last week, I just so happened to stumble across the note I had regarding premium too hair and hoped that I had not messed the hair up.
Anyway, back to yesterday. So when I came home from work, I wanted to add some curls to the hair. So I dug out my Caruso Steam Rollers, which I have had for about 6 months, and only used them once. I set up the base in the bathroom, and gathered about ten large/extra large rollers. I placed the rollers on the steamer for about 10-15 seconds which gave me time to section my hair and detangle. In no particular order, I rolled my hair and the weave in the rollers and also placed the roller cap on the steamer for a few seconds.
I let the rollers stay in my hair for about 30 to 45 minutes (I was playing on the x-box and lost track of time) and then took them out. I pin curled my hair for the night and took them down in the morning.
